Neighborhood Stabilization Plan

GenesisHOPE Community Development Corporation, The Church of the Messiah Housing Corporation, and The Villages Community Development Corporation have formed a collaboration to stabilize five diverse and unique neighboring communities known as The Villages Communities – Islandview Village, Islandview Village East, West Village, Indian Villages and East Village. The Community Development Organizations (CDOs) are working together to not only stabilize the historically grand communities, but more importantly are working to devise a long-term plan to revitalize the area.

The Planning Committee, which includes the three CDOs, residents, facilitators and technical assistant providers, assessed the current vacant property situation, housing conditions, trends in ownership and the housing market, and primary accounts of area conditions to reach a consensus on the goals, objectives and strategies for the Neighborhood Stabilization Plan. The goal of the plan is to stabilize The Villages Communities in 2-5 years by achieving these three objectives:

  • Maintain and increase residential and commercial occupancy
  • Address vacant properties
  • Improve physical conditions

The Planning Committee has designed six strategies to achieve the plan’s goals and objectives:

  • Improve Residential Fabric
  • Increase Local Control
  • Populate Neighborhoods
  • Beautify
  • Build Green Assets
  • Strengthen Commercial Nodes
