Genesis Harbor of Opportunities Promoting Excellence (GenesisHOPE), a 501(c)3 MI charitable trust corporation, was founded in August 2008 by Genesis Lutheran Church. The Church is located at 7200 Mack Avenue, Detroit, MI, and has served the community bounded by Gratiot on the north, Jefferson on the south, Mt. Elliot on the west and Van Dyke on the east since 1984. The Church has operated a 6-week summer program for 23 years under the leadership of Pastor Skip Wachsmann. However, the Church does not have the capacity to expand to meet the growing needs of its impoverished community. Therefore, the church founded GenesisHOPE as a community and economic development corporation to respond to the concerns and issues expressed by members of the community.
