We promote healthy living and equitably create healthy resilient communities for residents of Islandview, the Villages of Detroit, and surrounding neighborhoods. Our people first approach has made us a trusted community provider and partner. Our in-house expertise, value-driven service delivery, and our vast, rich and deep collaborative relationships allow us to promote healthy living so people + places thrive!

HEALTHY PEOPLE

We are Community Health Workers (CHW) who educate and support people in choosing healthier lifestyles. At our WeCARE Resource Center we promote healthy living with youth development and senior wellness programs, chronic disease management, and health and nutrition education programs for all ages.

A CHW is most effective with a central office in the community, hence the name "community" health worker. But, it is deeper than just the geographic location for Community Development Organizations (CDO) located in communities, such as GenesisHOPE. CDOs have established trust through, often long-term, relationships with people in the communities they serve. CDOs support residents in various ways, from food to housing to climate change challenges and everything in between - social determinants of health.

These social risk factors account for 80% of our health! As stated in our 2020 white paper, Building a Case for Support: Community Development Organizations to Collaborate with Healthcare Organizations, CDOs are uniquely positioned to partner with healthcare organizations (HCO) to provide patient-centered enabling care services via our community-based community health workers.

Phase I - The Preston Townhomes

The 2-3 bedroom homes are designed for families. And, the community is designed for families too with several pocket parks, a playscape for children and a community garden with ample green parking. The Preston provides numerous amenities for families with low to moderate incomes quality living at an affordable cost. There are a total of 31 units and 8,727 sq. ft. of open green space.

Capital for Phase I includes low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), City of Detroit HOME funds, Project Vouchers and other grants. Each source has specific household earning requirements between 30% and 50% of the average median income in the Metropolitan Detroit Area.

Sustainability

Climate changes and the city's aging infrastructure are causes of flooding across The Villages of Detroit and surrounding communities. Flooding poses significant health risks. To mitigate these risks, the new community includes green stormwater infrastructure that can capture and infiltrate over a million gallons of stormwater annually. The stormwater runoff infiltration is equal to a 1-year 24-hour storm, per NOAA. Therefore with 90% confidence this infiltration system will capture and infiltrate annual average rainfall of 34.7 inches or approximately 1,347,329 gallons.

The Mack Square mixed-used low-moderate income units.

Phase II - Mack Place Apartments

Mack Place is a 4-story mixed-use building on Mack Avenue, a public transit commercial corridor. The 29 apartments are 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms to accommodate families of various sizes.

The 3,000 sf of commercial space is designed to support retail and office businesses. Plus, Mack Place will be GenesisHOPE's new office!

Affordable Living and Open Green Spaces

Overall the new community increases housing stability and sustainability, and provides quality, safe and affordable housing for families!
