Where are they now?: Eva Bryant

Eva Bryant was a Young Sprout participant before our Young Sprouts program had a name.  She credits programs such as GenesisHOPE‘s Youth Development for helping cultivate her love of learning.  We had the opportunity to sit down with Eva (virtually of course) to catch up to ask, “Where are you now?”

A Detroiter through and through

Eva was born and raised in Detroit and still loves it here.  Her father was constantly teaching her and her brother all of the culture and history that our city has to offer.  Eva’s parents always had them involved in different programs and activities that kept them learning new things, Eva told GenesisHOPE.  One of those opportunities was the gardening program at Genesis Lutheran Church.

A Young Sprout before we called them Young Sprouts

“One of my fondest memories is definitely growing a cabbage and taking that home and cooking it with my family,” Eva recalled with a smile on her face. “We were exposed to so many different vegetables and fruits and even leadership!  We were taught to speak up and be respectful.”  Eva tells GenesisHOPE, “It opened me up to something different and learning something new. When something new comes up now, I am one that’s going to raise my hand for that, and I definitely believe that that comes from programs like GenesisHOPE’s.”

So where is she now?

Eva went on to earn her degree in accounting, is currently working on her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and has plans to go on to earn her MBA.  She has established a career in finance over the past 15 years working for a national bank.  Eva continues to learn and grow in her field, and she recently received a promotion to the executive branch there!

Roberta Smith, the first woman co-chief art critic of The New York Times and a lecturer on contemporary art, says, “When we stop learning, we stop growing.” Eva Bryant has never stopped growing, and we are so proud to have been a part of that. Congratulations to Eva on her new promotion!
